Offset
Climate Positive is committed to sourcing only high quality carbon offsets.
Since Australia ratified the Kyoto Protocol, Climate Positive has been investing primarily in renewable energy projects throughout the developing world which are accredited under internationally recognised accreditations such as the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
These projects have the benefit delivering additional carbon reductions by avoiding carbon emissions generated by burning fossil fuels. Additionally the projects build renewable energy capacity in these increasingly energy intensive countries and often deliver clean energy to communities who are accessing reliable electricity for the first time.
Full project details can be accessed through our offset project map. International projects which we have invested in to date include Rongcheng wind farm in China. Domestic projects previously purchased include biogas power stations in Western Australia and Tasmania and a wind power project in Victoria.
To achieve accreditation, all projects must achieve greenhouse abatement or generate renewable energy. It's essential that carbon offsets are credible and meet the following criteria:
• Permanent emission reductions
• Real-time emission savings
• Measurable and certain outcomes
• Additional, beyond business as usual
• Verified by third parties
Climate Positive also applies our internal selection criteria to ensure accredited offsets also meet our ecological and social standards. Our Going Positive section outlines the additional work Climate Positive is doing to deal with historical carbon debt and restore bio-diverse forests and ecosystems. For every one tonne offset through Climate Positive, we restore 4m2 of bio-diverse forest, in addition to the full carbon offset with renewable energy and emission reduction projects.
Individuals can make a tax-deductible donation to offset their emissions. Businesses should see our Business Solutions section for the range of options for achieving carbon neutrality.
